Congrats, you made the cut, but you aren't playing.

The new rule this year on tour is that while you may make the cut, only the the top 78 get to play. So if you "make the cut" but more than 78 also make the cut, the cut line moves up a stroke and you don't play on the weekend. The good thing is that you get last place money. So at the Sony, players finishing at Even will not play this weekend, but will earn about $11,000 for "making the cut".

Congrats to Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey for making his first cut.

Did anyone see Daly on the Golf Channel on Friday? He was one of those MDF (made cut, did not finish) guys, and he was pissed. He said that he had friends that had planned for months to fly over to Hawaii to watch him play over the weekend.

Ok, that is a legit complaint but for one small problem. Last year, Daly missed most of the cuts... so who would reasonably think "hey, let's go watch Daly play on a Saturday" at any event? I love the big guy, but come on now...

Yeah, he even said he was losing money as a result. Really, losing money? He won $11K (or something close to that), how much was his airfare, hotel and food for 5 or 6 days, $11K? And had the cut been set at -1 instead of E he would have received nothing, so FAT John should stop the whining, eat a salad and practice his putting. Oh, and if he had sponsors, what the hell was that money for? It's for covering his expenses so he can try to win money, like $11K every now and then.

His sponsors are gone. Anyone else notice? Just Winn grips on his collar... that's it. It's his own Belding Sports bag that he had made with "Grip it and Rip it" embroidered on it.

He should have known about the rule and obviously doesn't open his mail. It wasn't a prominent bit of news, but they did talk about it more than once. Supposedly the PAC (players advisory council) voted it in.

I guess without sponsors he is eating costs, but for a guy who wasn't concerned about losing 50 to 100K gambling, then why worry about losing a few K now? Had he managed his money a bit better in the past he wouldn't have the issue he claims to have. I guess his past is finally catching up to him. I hope for him that working with Butch Harmon works out.
