A Wie or Wi little wager

New Texan and I (Shade's) have another side bet going on this week and hopefully into the weekend for me. I have Wie making the cut. I also have Charlie Wi in our other weekly pgatour.com fantasy golf side bet action this week. At first New Tex thought I was trying to pull a fast one on him by having him agree to the Wie bet but then telling him I said Wi, as in Charlie Wi. I figure this might be the best chance Wie has of making a cut on the PGA Tour. Heck, this could be the best chance that Charlie Wi has of making a cut on the PGA Tour as well.

I am still trying to figure out what brand of crack you are smoking, but whatever you do, don't put down that pipe!

BTW, I think you look at Wie's closing 68 last year and put too much weight on it (pun intended). I don't doubt the little girl has enough talent to shoot a nice number on that course, with no pressure... and shooting 79 in the first round really takes the pressure off. The way she played in men's events last year, I am really shocked you offered this bet straight up. I would have given you 10:1!

10:1? WOW! The best I could find online was 2:1.

Well, they must be the authority! Did they have Florida as a 27 point favorite over Ohio State also?

I just clicked that link... they have her 2:1 to make a cut this YEAR not this WEEK.

Don't ever become a bookie... you'll be the first one in history to lose money.

New Texan, I was wondering the same after this blog, on the back of the FedEx Cup weighting system "debate", on the back of the anti-Tiger post. But if Jeff wants to give you money, keep on smoking!

Ironically, one of my initial thoughts was that this "little wager" was a first step for recovering from betting on the overrated oafs from Columbus.

For someone like myself, Monday night was "deja vu all over again" from the 70s and 80s when the "great" Suckeye and Wolverine teams would go to the Rose Bowl unbeaten and leave Pasadena whipped like a bad dog.

thanks for the support bandit...

my thoughts on betting all come from poker, where everything is about 'odds'. If you want to keep taking even money on bets where you are a longshot, you can't win, and I can't lose. So, if you take Wie straight up when she is in effect a 7:1 dog, you lost the bet before they tee up, in the long run.

bandit... quick thought... does Shades picking Wie (again... he lost the Wie/Trahan bet last year) qualify as an example of "wanton hubris?"

Given that Wie is, right now, only scheduled to play the Sony Open on the PGA Tour Schedule, then that 2:1 is for the Sony Open. Yes it says something like "any PGA Tour event.." So I guess my question is how many other PGA Tour events is she committed into playing this year? Sure she could play the 64 Lumber, but wouldn't the odds be even worse than the 10:1 you were thinking for the Sony Open?

Absolutely! It's a sterling example of "wanton hubris."

Sweet...

now watch the little beyotch shoot 68-68 and screw me over. Of course, there is no downside... because for $10 I'd gladly address all of my blog posts to shades as "Michelle Wie Fan Club President." In fact, if there was enough room on the spreadsheet, I'd do that right now!

That's not a bad point shades... of course, as the President of the Michelle Wie Fan Club, I'd expect that you have better intel on her schedule than I would. BTW, what classes is she thinking of taking at Stanford next year?

(ok, i am in tears from my own hilarity...)

And one last point (doubtful)... what is worse, my guessing at what the odds are and being wrong, or you not asking for the correct odds? I would have gladly given you 2:1. The fact is, she is not even money.

Again, I know I am jinxing this right into a 68-68 performance... actually, she'll probably get a decent start tomorrow, as she has an early tee-time.
