Shades, This Is For Your W(h)ine

In response to Mr. Shades views of our weekly side bet...

1. I am not excited about winning $5. I am excited about winning 40 weeks in a row, at $5 a pop.

2. Your comments are exactly what "making excuses" are. Half my points came from Vijay? Ha! Ok, drop Vijay's 4500 points from my total. I still have you beat!

I love it... one week in, and the smack/trash talk has already hit full stride!

So you make a new blog post to squak about your $5 win and crystal ball forcast of winning each of the next 40 weeks?.. and I have too much free time? I guess we need to put a spotlight on every banter?

Whine? I simply was pointing out how the FedEx points work, not whining. Posting about someone "whining" seems to be whining in itself.

Go find a mirror. Pat yourself on the back. You're up 1-0! I guess they should cancel the rest of the PGA tour. VJ is 1-0 too.

I guess you only read the 1st sentence of my comments to the side bet blog before starting this one. Because had you read the entire comment you would have read this:
The FedEx cup points are really heavily weighted. More than half of New Tex's points came from VJ. That's not an excuse, but just to point out that you really have to have top 5 guys in your picks.
How that is whining is beyond me. Yeah, I mentioned that half your points came from one player, but isn't that an example of the the Fed Ex points are top weighted for a Win vs the total points that 3 guys in the top 20, but not in the top 5 would get from a tournament?

Spotlight on every banter? I was just continuing the banter! I thought that was the purpose of this blog! I'll call off the hounds... apparently I touched a nerve.

Still... first rule of psychology... when someone says "this is not an excuse but,..." you can pretty much cancel everything before the "but!" Think.. "I love you, but..." "I would have shot under 80, but..." "But" is typically the great negator of the previous phrase.

Now go put in some thought into this week's picks... I was looking it over earlier, and it is a helluva lot harder with a full field.

Did we not have a side bet blog coving this topic directly below this one? Who was the person who was combining blog posts last year when 2 seemed to be on the same topic?

That's not an excuse
So if I didn't write that, you wouldn't have made a big deal out of the FACT that the FedEx Cup Points are weighed very heavily toward the winner and 2 or 3 runner up players. I'm not even talking about our picks (which I guess I should have pointed out.) As my point was if Player A's 5 picks finish 7, 12, 14, 16 and 17 vs Player B's 5 picks finishing 2, 3, 17, 22, 25, that even with the average of the finishes being better for the 1st person (13.2 v 13.8) by less than a point the Fed Ex points for the 2nd guy may be more than 1500 points better. But who knows, as the point system itself may have been screwed up for the 1st event given the small field.

My picks are done for this week. Let me know when yours are done and I'll email mine to you.

Don't forget to send me the side bet spreadsheet and I'll get that link updated for 2007 side bets.

This is pointless... but I'll continue anyway. It's just in my blood.

1. The new post was to post the picture of the cheese. If I could have embedded a pic of cheese in the comment I would have. It was for my amusement.

2. The FACT (stop yelling at me, especially when you make lousy points) that the FedEx Cup points are weighted is IRRELEVANT. Guess what? SO IS THE MONEY IN EVERY TOURNEY! IT IS SO OBVIOUS THAT THE POINTS ARE WEIGHTED, I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WOULD FEEL THE NEED TO HAMMER THIS HOME, OTHER THAN TO MAKE SOME KIND OF EXCUSE FOR YOUR PICKS. See, it's not nice to be yelled at.

If you take your same example, not only would the better "average" team have more FedEx points, they'd also make more money. Hell, this is even true in the FPGP. If I finish 1st this year and 3rd next year, and you finish 2nd both years... we both have the same "average" finish, but I'd have more cash in my pocket. So, what's the point?

And you really should be thankful that I am squawking... I actually thought I was giving you a ton of ammunition if you beat me in this side bet thing!

The sidebet spreadsheet is a tab on the main spreadsheet... when I start sending that, you'll have it. I am not going to post the first update for a month or so, as it is pointless, so you'll get it then.

I have 5 picks, but I will probably tweak them a bit... I'll send them to you Thursday... not sure if you noticed but the picks get locked in on 6 a.m. on the first day of the tourney, so you can goof around with them until then.

-Ok, I can understand that. That is one of the short comings with blog comments vs a message board.

2. The FACT (stop yelling at me

-I capped FACT to bring attention to my point. That was the only word in caps. But you still don't seem to get my point that I was trying to make about the FEDEX point system. You want to make all this about me making excuses. You can't be farther from the truth. I guess the word "but" has caused you to not comprehend what I was writing. I don't understand why you can't figure that point out so I will stop making it.

I lost week 1. Got my ass handed to me. My best guy shot 4-over on moving day. I can only hope a Wi and a Wie makes the cut.
