UPDATE 10/22/07

No changes from last week... The top 3 remain the same, the Red Sox are still playing, and the Yankees suck. Pretty much business as usual. Here are the numbahs:

680 ..... Steve T. / Tex
496 ..... Da Bandit
419 ..... Excal
393 ..... Vic/Talon
334 ..... Timmy D. / Bimma
333 ..... Johnny V.
272 ..... Stan the Man
268 ..... Stevie V.
133 ..... Jeff / Shades
78 ..... Murph/MG
-5 ..... Krust
-10 ..... Robbo/Buzz
-96 ..... Tev

And yes, I can confirm that Robbo's contribution has been earmarked for Da Bandit, assuming he stays in money position.

Hey Robbo, I understand from da Bandit that you will be at the Monkey Hill Classic next week in New Orleans. If you want, I will gladly bring with me a Red Sox World Series Championship hat & shirt for you along with a RSN application! hehehehehehe

It would look good up on the FPGP website, don't you think??

GOOOO SOX!!!!!!!!

Bimma... don't count chickens yet. the Rox are the real deal. The Sox will be very fortunate to get by them.

Hey Bimma, you mean they're already selling knockoffs on Yawkey Way? I may wait for the official Rox series championship hat to wear to the venerable Monkey Hill Classic. :-) I think this series just may have 1969 and 2003 written all over it. Big Papi at first and Youklis at third with DiceK and Lester on the mound while Manny roams the pasture in Denver???

Glad to see Good triumph over Evil in the A.L., but New Tex's observation is on the mark. I can't believe the number of people - bonafide Sox fans and talking heads - calling for a Boston Sweep. Especially against the Polish shortstop!

New Texan said...

Exactly... let's not count chickens. The thought of discounting a team that is 21-1 in their last 22 is ridiculous.

Go Sox!

Go Red Sox, win it for AL. I hope the Sox win, 2 wins in the last 4 years would make them a worthy, current day rival. It is much more of an enjoyable rivalry when the Sox play well, honestly up until a couple of years ago it was like being in a running race with Ed Kennedy, all show and hot air but no go...now swimming he apparently can do in a drunken stupor.

New Texan said...

Vic, we appreciate the support... that said, if the Sox are fortunate enough to go on and continue their dominance (this is comment is made after Game 1) of this series and win the World Series... it will be the Sox looking for a worthy opponent... the 2008 Yankees and their 79-83 record and 3rd place finish won't cut it.

We are on the verge of a Kuhnian paradigm shift my friends (holy shit, I went to grad school too!!!).

Go Sox!

(I watched the game in Killeen, Texas... with a bunch of Army dudes... what a life).

By no account have I discounted the Rockies. I admit they are the hottest team in baseball heading into the Series. And it will be interesting to see what the Sox do in Denver with Papi and Yooooook. Who do you sit?? And Manny, who cares??? :-) (not him!!). Did you see his wheels last night?? That boy can run when he wants to (which is next-to-never!!).

I certainly don't see a repeat of 2004 (sweep), but I do see Josh "the new Mr. October" Beckett winning game 5 for the Series and MVP.

bocabandit said...

Kuhnian Paradigm Shift or is it simply Back To The Future? Had we been alive in 1918 we would have been glorifying or cursing Red Sox dominance of baseball with their 5 titles in 16 years. Perish the thought, but growing up in Bridgerport CT, I might have even joined the newly-founded Yankee Nation to cheer for the annual victim of the Boston Bullies. Nah, hard to swallow that would have happened. But there may be a historical pattern that the Sox start each century dominant, and then.... :-)

New Texan said...

Bandit, I just wanted to sound smart and use "Kuhnian paradigm shift" in a relatively appropriate context.

1 down, 3 more to go... big game tonite. If we get historic Schilling, this series is over. If we get a guy pitching like he is 40, it's a whole new ball game/series.

I'm surprised that Robbo hasn't demanded a Dustin Pedroia urine sample by now... that little bugger is hitting the crap out of the ball! I just want to grab him and give him a noogie!

BostonBimma said...

I agree Tex...if ol' Schill pitches like he has in playoff past, then I think it is O-V-A in 4 or 5 easily. But, if the Rox are able to steal one tonight, then I may be a little worried as it shifts to Snow-ville!!

And, yes, Pedroia LOOKS more like he should be playing the LL World Series...not on the big stage!! But, boy did he get hot at the right time!! With the exception of Lugo, no easy outs in this lineup at present!!

Unfortunately, my vocabulary is as big as Pedroia, so I can't match you and Bandit... :)

bocabandit said...

Likewise, just trying to validate my degrees in History. We'll know more by the middle of this century whether this is a historical pattern of development. Thanks to advances in cryopreservation techniques, I may be in a position finally to make some money betting baseball at the start of the 22nd century. And Teddy Ballgame may be out patroling under The Green Monster again!

P-H-E-W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was a close one...but the good 'ol boys of Boston prevailed!! Now, if we can get one more 'W' from either Dice-K or Johnny Lester, it will set up the Game 5 (if needed) for Beckett!! Game.....Set.....Match!!!!!!!

Red Sox...Patriots...Boston College...and, christ, even the Bruins!!! Does it get any better????

New Texan said...

Yes, it does... you forgot about the Celtics.

BostonBimma said...

No I didn't Tex!! Haven't thought about the Celtics since the Bird, McHale, and Parrish days!! Plus, not a hoop fan anyway...that is, unless its college hoops and I have $$$$ on it!! Then, I watch!!

bocabandit said...

And so will you, New Tex, come May. :-)

Bimma, how's your ankle after that big leap on to the B.C. bandwagon? Nothing more than a sprain I hope. Did your relatives welcome you with open arms or did they try to shove your Fighting Irish butt off it!

New Texan said...

The last vegas odds that I saw had the Celts 7:1 to win the NBA Championship 3:1 to win the East. Get interested baby! Kevin Garnett!

Boston sports fans should send MN sports fans flowers or something... we get Ortiz from the Twins, Garnett from the Wolves, Muroney went to the U., and Moss was there before the Raidahs.

New Texan said...

Hold on... Bimma is a Notre Dame fan? That is unacceptable unless he actually attended that dump. You can't be a ND and BC fan... you have to pick your Catholics...

bocabandit said...

Don't forget Talonflier's ferocious Georgetown Hoyas who proudly secured their first victory of the year last Saturday against the ruffians from western Pennsylvania at Bucknell. Of course they had a tough schedule, having had to play traditional powerhouses like the mighty Cornell Big Red (lifetime 2-0 versus Ohio State).

New Texan said...

I don't mind Georgetown... it's ND that gets on my last nerve. Gee, let's have a terrible team play on national tv every week... it's cool though, because at least this year they won't lose a bowl game.

BostonBimma said...

Bandit, I'm not, nor ever was, on the BC bandwagon!!! I just meant as a "Boston" reference to current sports! I give the Eagles credit for being #2 in the nation though and for pulling out a HUGE win (albeit very ugly) in Blacksburg last night!

Yes, Tex, I am not ashamed to say that I have ALWAYS been a IRISH fan (cheer, cheer for Old Notre Dame....)!! Don't blame them...blame the network (NBC)!!

bocabandit said...

Having lived in Boston during the mid 80s the great thing about the town is that with all this happening in major sports, when you pick up the Monday Globe or Herald-Examiner, you will see that the highest rated TV sports broadcast for the weekend was Candlepin Bowling!!!

New Texan said...

bandit... candlepin bowling rocks! I still have my junior trophies!

bimma... i blame the mildly retarded masses for giving NBC that idea in the first place... toss in the fact that it is a bunch of rascists running the place (ty willingham gets the boot and whitey weiss gets a 10 year contract?) and I can't take it anymore. It's almost too bad that they won't get the chance to get destroyed again in January.

BostonBimma said...

Whoooaaa....that is a very harsh comment Tex!! If they were racist, they wouldn't have hired that gentleman of color in the first place!! I actually thought he was a pretty good coach and was surprised they let him go so abruptly. But, now of course, the fat bastard who waddles on the sidelines..well, I'm not in favor of giving any coach a 10 year contract!! He should have stayed up in the coaches box for the Patriots!! But, then again, the exercise he gets on the sidelines is probably doing him some good!!
