Master's Sucks

Well, here's my annual tirade about the Master's; that over-hyped, weak-fielded, and discriminatory golf event. It's a disgrace to call it a major. As some proof, check out those eligible to play this year:

Tommy Aaron, Severiano Ballesteros, Gay Brewer, Jack Burke Jr, Billy Casper
Charles Coody, Ben Crenshaw, Raymond Floyd, Doug Ford, Bob Goalby,
Sandy Lyle, Larry Mize, Byron Nelson, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer,
Gary Player, Craig Stadler, Tom Watson, Ian Woosnam, Fuzzy Zoeller

Toss in the amateurs in the field who have no chance of winning (Dillon Dougherty, Kevin Marsh, Brian McElhinney, Edoardo Molinari, Clay Ogden) and that makes 25.

Throw in Todd Hamilton (who likely has vacation plans starting on the weekend) and ya have 26 without a chance to win. Hell, the 84 Lumber and Southern Farm Bureau Classics have stronger fields. Not eligible are J.B. Holmes, Camillo Villigas, and fat boy Jason Gore (2 of which won on the tour).

Call me silly, but I'd take da Rodent over Lord Byron, if he gave Robbo 2 shots a side. If I hadn't recently bought a flat screen, HDTV, and if it weren't so pretty to look at, I wouldn't watch the thing. --- Steve V.

Wow.

You are right in terms of the field, history is what makes it a major.

I've changed my mind. I'd take Lord Nelson over da Rodent. More consistent and he knows how to win!!!

I find Steve V's original blog to be rather jejune. I will provide commentary when I can find the time.

Bravo, Excaliber. Job well done. I went to the '84 Masters. It was quite an experience, despite what the Calibans of the world might say.

Plus, Steve V. you don't find names like Ben Curtis, Steve Jones, Todd Hamilton, Mark Brooks, etc. on the Masters Trophy do you?

I guess you have to be a pretty complete player to win at Augusta.
